Pawn shops are more likely to thrive than struggle during a recession as credit scores plummet and banks lend fewer conventional loans. In the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2009, revenues at Austin, Tex.-based EZCORP, Inc. – a publicly traded company that operates payday loan stores and pawn shops across the United States – rose 44 percent over the prior year period to $184.8 million.
