Longmont police are spearheading a program where rental properties adhering to a get-tough approach to lawbreaking tenants can be designated as “crime free.”
Qualifying properties could see breaks on insurance rates while attracting better tenants.
“Really, it’s the type of thing that could spread throughout the community,” said police Sgt. Chris Schmad.
Schmad and Officer Sara Aerne began training property owners last week on how to earn the crime-free designation. Aerne, who worked as a police officer in Arizona, said the program succeeded in that state, and so she decided to try it in Longmont.
