Longmont Community Foundation maintains 2009 grant levels

The Longmont Community Foundation announced last week that it will maintain 2009 levels of community grant funding for 2010.
The foundation said in a release that it considered reducing grant funding because of investment losses, but the board of directors decided to maintain 2009 levels.

“Because of these difficult times for every sector of the economy, especially for the non-profit sector, the Board decided to support our local not-for-profits at the same level,” said Longmont Community Foundation Board Chair Van Stow in the release.

However, as of the Dec. 1, 2009 grant application deadline, the foundation saw a 34-percent increase in requests.

“The Grants Committee certainly has its hands full in the coming months,” said Executive Director Eric Hozempa. He said it is “emotionally difficult for them to narrow down the grant requests.”
Grant distribution from the 2010 Community Grants program will take place at the foundation’s annual Grants Celebration Breakfast on April 9.
