Greg Iwan: Longmont elections not for sale

Editor:

It looks like there are some people and not-so-innocuous or benign groups who are eager to buy the upcoming Longmont municipal election. Many of them live nowhere near Longmont. What if the commodity is not for sale?

David S. Sullivan: Debbie Lammers for St. Vrain Valley school board

Debbie Lammers has been involved in the St. Vrain Valley School District both locally and district wide for as long as I can remember. Debbie Lammers has always stepped up as the “Doer” that she is, to get things accomplished for the betterment of the education of our children. I was personally gleeful and said to myself “Of Course” when I first heard of Debbie Lammers running for her districts seat on the Board of the SVVSD . Debbies experience on the Niwot HS Education Foundation and many local commities as well as her extensive involvement and leadership in many school district wide efforts makes Debbie the candidate of choice. The “Doer”, gets my endorsement. Debbie Lammers. “Of Course”!

Chris Boardman: Kaye Fissinger for Longmont City Council

I am supporting Kaye Fissinger for Longmont City Council at-large.  I have known Kaye for over two years and I have observed her tireless participation in civic affairs.  She has demonstrated admirable skill and determination in her work on such local issues as open space, storm drainage, mall redevelopment and wildlife preservation.  She regularly attends City Council meetings, studying the packet materials to attain a grasp of the issues equal to that of any City Council member.  She has made a deep, personal commitment to the future of our town.

Kaye’s background as an educator and a worker in varied industries gives her a breadth of experience that will be an asset to the City Council.  As a retiree, she can devote her full time to Council business and will make an excellent advocate for our senior citizens.  As a sitting member of the Board of Environmental Affairs, Kaye also has a keen understanding of the environmental challenges that face us.

Speaking as an unaffiliated voter, I am often disappointed by the performance of elected officials once they are in office.  While campaigning, they tell you they are going to pursue an ambitious program of reforms.  Once elected, they become another cog in a machine primed to serve a few narrow interests.  I support Kaye Fissinger because she is not a machine candidate.  When she presents her vision for promoting quality of life, economic diversity and sustainability in Longmont, I believe she means what she says.  She will dedicate herself to deliver on the promise of her campaign because she is truly independent and will not follow any agenda beyond what is best for the people and the future of Longmont.

I urge Longmont voters to join me in voting for Kaye Fissinger.

Ron Stewart: No plans to charge for county open space use

Posted by Camera staff in Monday, October 19th 2009 under Uncategorized

To the Editor:

The purpose of this letter is to correct misinformation about fees at Boulder County trails and trailheads. Some reports have inaccurately stated that Boulder County currently has, or is considering charging, fees for use of open space. While the City of Boulder may consider this approach for their trails and trailheads, Boulder County supports the idea of allowing public use of county open space without any fee.

In fact, Boulder County has never charged a fee for using Boulder County Open Space trails or trailhead parking. Our department recognizes there are open space programs up and down the Front Range that offer facilities and trails for public use. Many of our residents visit those trails and open space properties and residents of those counties visit our trails and open spaces.

Again, we do not have any plans to charge fees to those who enjoy our open space properties.

  1. BREW says:

    Greg,
You don't know squat. "Some" people? What if?

What if a seasoned city councilwoman has finally realized that she can't continually shortchange and mislead her community without people noticing? That's what's important here. It's about time publicity be given to exactly what our city councilwoman who's trying to get re-elected is up to. It's called ACCOUNTABILITY. If anyone is suspect…look at who all the fingers seem to keep pointing to.

And as for out of town?

  2. BREW says:

As for out of town…most of the people who are speaking the loudest in this election are the ones who live here. We don't need anyone outside Longmont to tell us what we already have known for a while.

As for out of town…You might ask why the Longmont city attorneys took the campaign finance lawsuit to DENVER instead of keeping it local.

  3. BREW says:

    Mr Boardman…no thank you.

  4. Longmont voter says:

Ms. Fissinger, you ran a great campaign. Good luck with your future endeavors.
