Boys Tennis: Cougars send three to state semis

Niwot got all three of its singles players through the first two rounds of the 4A state tennis tournament at Pueblo City Park.

The Cougars sit tied for fourth with Colorado Academy with 12 points. Cheyenne Mountain leads with 19. Longmont is tied for sixth with seven.

No. 1 singles player Michael Ogez led the way for Niwot, topping Colorado Academy`s Thomas Sisk 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. He moves on to today`s semifinals where he`ll face Broomfield`s Andrew Flora.

Flora — a transfer from Mountain Range who took the Eagles` top spot after defending state champ Kelly Donaldson`s season was wiped out by a back injury — beat Lars Hillebrand of Pueblo West 6-2, 6-2 in the quarters.

Niwot`s Harrison Lang and Chris Gang, meanwhile, qualified for semis at Nos 2 and 3 singles, respectively.

Longmont advanced No. 3 singles player Derek Clark and the No. 1 doubles team of Connor Ohlsen and Ben Teebken through the first two rounds.

Play resumes at 9 a.m. today with semifinals followed by the first two rounds of playbacks.

I don't recall seeing a follow up article on what happened with the 3 Niwot singles players who made it to the semi finals and where the overall Niwot tennis team finished in the standings. Did the Longmont Ledger publish a story on that?
