Trojans blank rival Niwot, head to playoffs

LONGMONT — Quarterback Jake Johnson accounted for two touchdowns in the first quarter and Longmont went on to defeat rival Niwot 29-0 on Friday at Everly-Montgomery Field.
Johnson threw for 175 yards on 10-of-15 passing. He connected with Darian Finley Garcia on a 64-yard touchdown pass and ran for another. He also ran for 41 yards.

Longmont finished the regular season 8-2 and awaits Sunday`s release of the Class 4A state tournament pairings, while Niwot`s season came to an end with a record of 2-8.
Longmont led 12-0 after the first quarter and 15-0 at halftime.
Mark Lipford`s 7-yard touchdown run in the third quarter increased the lead to 22-0 and Garcia added a 12-yard touchdown run to finish the scoring.
Kelton Manzanares led Niwot with 80 yards rushing on 21 carries.
