‘Jog for Jenny’ to raise money in memory of Niwot High grad

The student council at Niwot High School will host the first “Jog for Jenny,” a charity run/jog event in memory of Jenny Martinez, a 2008 graduate who was killed that year in an auto accident while traveling back home from college in California.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The jog will begin at NHS, 8989 E. Niwot Road, and proceed west down Niwot Road, north on a bike path adjacent to 83rd Street, loop through Brittany Place and return via the same route.

There will be a reception in the Cougar Commons following the jog. Refreshments will be provided starting at noon. There will be guest speakers and musical entertainment.

Donations of $5 are suggested to participate in the jog and t-shirts will be on sale for $10. All proceeds will be given to Children’s Miracle Network, helping support the Children’s Hospital patients and their families.

Martinez was an Honor Roll stuDent, a member of the student council and lettered in three sports at NHS. She was a member of the Boulder Valley Girls’ Lacrosse team and earned an academic scholarship to Division I St. Mary’s College, where she was a member of the lacrosse team.

“There is just a huge piece of Jenny in all of our hearts,” said Doug Duffy, sponsor of the student council and coach of the cross-country team.
