The St. Vrain Valley School District will offer free H1N1 vaccinations to district students from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27 in the Commons Room at Skyline High School, 600 E. Mountain View in Longmont.
Students must be accompanied by their parent or a legal guardian, who will need valid identification, to receive the vaccine.
Vaccinations are available to all healthy students 5 to 18 years old. Children under age 10 will need to receive a second dose of the vaccine a month after the first dose to assure full immunity. Children under 5 should be vaccinated by the family’s primary provider.
Students will be vaccinated either by intramuscular injection or a nasal spray, dependent on supplies provided by state and federal authorities. Children who have received a Flumist vaccination for the seasonal flu should wait at least 1 month before receiving the H1N1 vaccine.
Students with underlying health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or an immuno-compromised condition should consult their private healthcare provider regarding which H1N1 vaccination is appropriate for them.
The vaccine is not recommended for individuals who are allergic to eggs or egg products, sensitive to Thimerisol , or have a fever or active respiratory infection or other infections.
This service is dependent on the timely receipt of the H1N1 Flu Vaccine from state and federal officials. Please check the St. Vrain Valley School District Web site, www.stvrain.k12.co.us, for any changes to the above schedule.
