Who is your hero? I would have to say my mother, Joanne Tackwell

Tell us something unusual about yourself that few people know: I was crowned Little Miss Colorado in 1972, and I was also awarded United Service Organizations’ Entertainer of the Year when I was 12.

What is your favorite Web site or blog? coloradorockies.com

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I would like to be 3 inches taller

What do you think are the district’s top budget priorities? And how would you engage the community in making tough decisions? Attracting and retaining highly qualified teachers is always a priority as well as keeping up with the ever-changing needs in technology. I strongly support our community-based budget advisory and finance and audit committees for suggestions and feedback. I also believe that community engagement meetings are a must.

How do you think the district should move forward with teacher contract negotiations? I am confident we are moving in the right direction at this time.

How would you work to continue closing the achievement gap? One of the most important things I can do is to continue to ensure resources are available. I believe we need to concentrate on early intervention and continue monitoring as needed until graduation.

What issue would you take up, if elected, that you think hasn’t been addressed by previous school boards? One issue we have studied and I will continue to explore is the length and structure of our school calendar. I am interested in a model that allows for shorter but more frequent breaks throughout the year.
