Chris Oehlkers was looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity that would appeal to her love of the outdoors and wildlife when she found Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center a year ago. The Longmont Newcomers Club has seen many a change since its 1948 inception — membership has fluctuated, dues have increased from $1 per year to $20 and interest groups have diversified in keeping with the trends. But, the one thing that has remained the same is the group’s original intent: to welcome newcomers to the community and keep them around long enough to become well-established “old-timers.”

Unlike most newcomer organizations, which typically impose a time limit on new members, LNC allows members to remain “newcomers” as long they wish.
